WELCOME!

Dre Roxanne Ouellet, MD

It's widely acknowledged that adopting a proactive and multidisciplinary approach is the most effective way to achieve our life goals while ensuring our health and happiness.

As a medical doctor, I empathize with those who feel there is more to life but are unsure of where to begin.

Unfortunately, patients presenting symptoms of hormonal imbalance are often dismissed with explanations like "It's just stress," or "You're getting older; it's normal." Many are prescribed antidepressants or the birth control pill to "regulate" hormones, or advised to relax, lose weight, or seek counseling. Hormonal fluctuations are rarely assessed through hormone testing.

WHAT IS BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY (BHRT)?

There has been an increasing interest in a more natural method of hormone regulation, which has highlighted bioidentical hormones.

These hormones have a molecular structure that is identical to the hormones produced by your body.

Bioidentical hormone therapy (BHRT) is often called “natural hormone therapy” because these hormones function in the body just like the hormones our bodies naturally produce. The body is unable to differentiate between bioidentical hormones and those it produces independently.

Bioidentical hormones are FDA-approved and help reduce many of the health risks and concerns associated with traditional hormone replacement therapy. The support for BHRT in managing health issues is well-documented.

BHRT is appropriate for both men and women.

FAQS

SHOULD I STOP MY HORMONES BEFORE MY INITIAL CONSULTATION?

If you are currently undergoing BHRT, we would like to review your blood levels in relation to your current treatment to make any necessary adjustments.

For those using other forms of hormones (such as synthetic hormones or birth control), our team will conduct a consultation before making any recommendations.

WHAT SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY INITIAL CONSULTATION?

You will receive an intake form to complete before your consultation. Please ensure it is returned to us at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO STAY ON BHRT?

It's entirely your choice! You can use them short-term for symptom relief or long-term to gain additional health benefits.

Restoring all deficient hormones to levels similar to those in our youth can enhance both our health and quality of life. Hormone levels typically decline due to aging (usually starting in our 30s), menopause, disease, or trauma. The loss of these hormones is one of the primary reasons for physical and mental decline as we age.

SYNTHETIC VS BIOIDENTICAL HORMONES

Synthetic hormones were initially developed to manage menopause symptoms and combat osteoporosis and heart disease. However, synthetic hormones can produce abnormal metabolites, leading to potential side effects and an increased risk of cancer, heart disease, and stroke.

In contrast, bioidentical hormones are identical to human hormones. They are referred to as "natural" because the body recognizes and metabolizes them as if they were produced internally. Numerous studies have demonstrated the long-term benefits of hormone therapy. It is essential to ensure that you receive the appropriate bioidentical hormone in the correct dosage.

ARE THE SERVICES COVERED BY INSURANCE?

Medical visits are not covered by provincial health insurance in Canada. However, some private insurance plans may partially cover the cost of consultations, including medications for bio-identical hormones.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE INITIAL VISIT AND HOW OFTEN DO I NEED FOLLOW-UPS?

Welcome to our clinic! During your initial consultation, our medical team will conduct a comprehensive review of your health history and discuss your concerns and goals regarding Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). We will also request blood tests to better understand your needs. A few weeks later, you'll have a follow-up appointment with one of our Nurse Practers or Doctors to review your test results and a personalized treatment plan. Typically, follow-ups are scheduled at 3, 6, and 9 months during the first year, then every 6 to 12 months based on your progress.
